Happy Mental Health Day!

We have been learning how important it is to keep our minds as healthy as we keep our bodies.

We talked about what to do if we feel upset, or angry, or worried, and celebrated things we love.

We made promises to each other to be a good friend and talked about how it is easy to say unkind things when we’re angry, but harder to take them back so we need to think carefully about peoples feelings.

We also got to wear whatever makes us happy, whether it was pyjamas, mufti or fancy dress. We found out that sparkly shoes make some of us very happy!!

Fun on the ice.

The children had a great time on the ice despite falling over lots of times. They used their growth mindset and believed that they could do it! Lots of resilience and courage were shown and all of the children amazed me.

Being creative.

The children in Charles Wicksteed class have worked together to show the values of unity and friendship to create our classroom. This term our topic “Around the world” will see us learning about Australia, Brazil in South America and Kenya in Africa.

Lights, Camel, Action!

After weeks of practicing lines, singing words (even in our sleep!), hijacking the hall and learning the funkiest dance moves in Kettering, it was time for the annual Key Stage 1 performance – Lights, Camel Action!

The children had all worked really hard and all of the teachers were very proud of them. Much like Mary and Joseph’s journey to Bethlehem, it has been a tiring road with a worthwhile result at the destination!

We saw funky camels, a tango fandango, stage invasions, line dancing townspeople, Morris dancing sheep, a hand jive straight from Grease, and enough glitter to make the school hall sparkle and shine!

Well done to all the children, now for a big rest before Christmas.

What did the confused owl say?

To-whit-to-WHY?

The owls were certainly confused on Tuesday this week because they swapped their usual forest home for St Andrews school as Key Stage 1 got to have an up close encounter.

We enjoyed learning about the beautiful birds of prey, how they catch their food, how old they grow to be and lots of other interesting facts.

We even got a chance to hold them! We all felt very lucky to have experienced this.

Dissecting owl pellets

As part of our learning about owls the children in Charles Wicksteed class have been finding out about what an owl likes to eat. Miss Cross put on some gloves and dissected an owl pellet. We saw bones, teeth, a skull, a claw and a jaw bone.

Not one, but two!

David Attenborough class have been working very hard this term, showing the values of friendship, resilience, respect, unity and love. We have made so many good choices that we have filled up our class marble jar not once, but twice!

This afternoon we have enjoyed watching the classic film Alice in Wonderland and having a special treat of crisps.

We loved the funny film and all the silly things that happened in it!

Did you know that Alice in Wonderland is based on a book by Lewis Carroll? It would make a perfect bedtime story!

How high can you climb?

Key Stage 1 had a lot of fun on Day 1 of our school Growth Mindset challenge. We had a go at clambering on the mini boulder, aimed and shot arrows in Archery and faced our fears by climbing the 9 metre climbing wall!

Some of us were really excited to have a go and some of us were very scared but we all had a go 🙂

Lots of children were able to climb all the way to the top – some of us were even able to do it lots of times! A few children were nervous and took a couple of tries to get on the wall, not getting very high – but all the teachers were proud of how well their friends were cheering them on – great friendship!

We can’t wait to see what other adventures we have to develop our Growth Mindset – it’s important to not give up, even when it’s tricky!

Making cupcakes

The children in Key Stage One enjoyed an afternoon of making cakes. Following on from reading the story of Little Red Riding Hood we decided to bake cakes for grandma. Tomorrow in literacy we will be writing the instructions.
